Ah, Students

Essays for one of my classes are due tomorrow.

Most of the students in this class are intelligent and diligent. But some are only diligent.

The basis of my observation? The student who just came into my office to ask (in response to the comments that I made on the rough draft, which was returned three weeks ago):
1) What's a thesis statement?
2) Do I have to argue something in the paper that's due tomorrow?

Well, at least s/he came to ask while there's still time to revise the paper...
