On Method and Madness
No, I don't think that the students in my class on the Best Man Ever are illiterate.
And, yes, I do think that they're doing the readings before class.
But we're still going to spend the next week and a half of classes doing nothing but reading the Major Thinkers about the Best Man Ever and answering the questions "What did Major Thinker say?" and "What did Major Thinker mean?".
I know that it's dry and boring and tedious. But they'll understand the Major Thinkers much better this way.
At least, that's the method behind my madness.
