Something That Made Me Smile...

... in the classroom, no less.

In my course on the Best Man Ever, we're currently reading the writings of the Cave Community.

As we discussed the lifestyle of the community, with the leader teaching them how to live, various religious practices, initiation process, and communal ownership of property, one of my students described the Cave Community in a way that I had never, in all my academic reading and discussions, come across before:

"The Cave Community sounds an awful lot like a cult."

Yes, I suppose it does.

But in academia, it really doesn't do to say so!
