Impressions

I "dress up" for work: blazer, shirt, pants, dress shoes (with heels) and all in dark colours.

Why? Because I like to dress this way? Heck, no.

So, why? Strategy.

Formal clothing sets me apart from my casually dressed students. Heels lend me (much-needed) inches. And dark colours are more professional (in comparison, for example, with hot pink).

During a class today, I showed pictures of TLWTMS.

What I had hoped that my students would pay attention to was the vastly ancient architecture, the intricacies of the art work, the pain-staking preservation of the archaeological sites.

What they actually noticed?

The one shot that included Dr. S.W., who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt!

In moments like these, I realize that I am never going to understand my students...
